Port capacity, ship size, and freight statistics are not measured in weight or number of boxes. They are measured in TEUs.
- TEU (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit): Represents the volume of a standard 20-foot shipping container.
- FEU (Forty-Foot Equivalent Unit): Represents the volume of a 40-foot container (equal to 2 TEUs).
When reading that a mega-vessel has a capacity of 24,000 TEU, it means it can carry the equivalent of 24,000 20-foot containers.
